Oh, HP fandom. Shine on, you crazy diamond.

I saw this earlier this week, and, knowing fandom, of course it would show up on fandom wank.

I would like to just say for the record (I'm pretty sure I've mentioned it in one of my DH commentaries, but w/e):

I have never disliked Lily, but I thought it was pretty awful of JKR to make her -- an Order of the Phoenix member who had been looking over her shoulder for months -- cry and beg instead of going down fighting. It was bad enough that her idiot husband was sitting around playing with himself and didn't think to, oh, have his wand handy in case Voldemort came knocking (come on! it wasn't exactly a remote possibility, given their circumstances! grr!), but she'd heard the noise and actually had a chance to go get her wand and be ready. She didn't even take out her wand, just tried to fucking barricade herself, and then tried to shield baby Harry with her body -- I'm sorry, this is the 21st century, and that's more cliche than poignant/relevant, and Molly's "NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU BITCH" from DH was FAR more interesting (not to mention empowering as a moment of pure Ellen Ripley badassery). I will always be bitter that it was Molly fucking Weasley (whom I do dislike for reasons unrelated to her vagina) who got to shine like that instead of Harry's mother. I don't care! *hands* Lily deserved better. >:(

But also, guess what? The books in the Harry Potter series are not feminist works, and insisting that reading them from a feminist perspective is ~the only way to go~ is JUST AS DUMB as being one of those astral plane-wandering Snapewives. It's a fairy tale about a magical school, with broomsticks and a two-dimensional villain, ffs. >.>
