random thought on the suspensions

This has probably been brought up somewhere, but between Prophecy and trying to catch up on my flist, I possibly missed it. I was just reading the LJ FAQ entry on suspended accounts and noticed this:

Account suspensions are generally used by the Abuse Prevention Team as a last resort. In most cases, a user will be provided with an opportunity to delete any content that is in violation of the Terms of Service before his or her account is suspended. Immediate suspensions are done for certain reasons, including but not limited to:

[snip]
* journals where all material is a violation of the Terms of Service.

[snip]
In most cases, users whose journals have been suspended will be unsuspended and provided with a limited time window in which to correct the violations of the Terms of Service. However, some suspended journals will not be reinstated for certain reasons, which include but are not limited to:

[snip]
* journals where all material is a violation of the Terms of Service

So it appears that LJ Abuse Prevention Team staff violated their own fucking guidelines by permanently suspending Ponderosa and Foo, because no way in HELL those journals contained ONLY material in violation of the Terms of Service. Way to FUCKING fail some more, LJ. God.

invisible logic

Because it's so much easier, in the long run, to suspend an entire journal, piss off nearly the entire fandom community, and write a series of tl;dr posts that say nothing... than it is to delete ONE offensive entry whilst acting on an abuse report.

Seriously, am I the only one who doesn't understand why it's so difficult for LJ to actually follow their own "procedure" and remove offensive content when it is pointed out to them? They say themselves that they don't investigate, that they don't go looking for offensive content. So, um, you're an Abuse wonk. You get a link from an abuse report, determine with your Sage and Artistic mind that it is, indeed, inappropriate because DH spoilerCollapse )

You, um, DELETE THE POST. NOTIFY THE USER THAT HER POST WAS NOT OKAY AND WHY. MOVE ON WITH YOUR LIFE.

Because dude. Fandomers are NOT pedophiles. Their journals do not deserve to be suspended; they are not actually full of kiddyfucking. They are full of random linkspam, pictures of their families and friends, lyrics to their favourite songs, recs of their favourite fics/art, rants, counter-rants, srs bsns meta posts, stories about their day, fanfic, bitching about their coworkers, pie, squeeing about their various fandoms, knitting patterns, advice requests, polls on everything from "what colour should I dye my hair?" to "do you think JKR is a dastardly villain?"... Yes, there are occasional fanarts that might send your average Member of the General Public into a conniption fit, but that's when you BAN THE FANART. Not the USER.

Seriously, what the fuck is WRONG with these people?

ETA: And I'm going to have to get used to spending more time revising my entries, because editing them in 6 different places is soooo annoying when I spot a typo. :P
