Forget reviews; I have recs today.

xylodemon has begun posting Left Behind, a Neville-centric genfic [PG] that's slated for ten parts. Julie's writing is so engaging that I would probably find meaning in one of her shopping lists, but I can tell that this fic is going to be something truly special -- it already is. It's "about the people who will more than likely get left behind in book seven" and there is such attention to characterisation and she's got such a way with the canon details. I am just a ball of squee and so insanely excited about this story.

...And Then They Had Mad Sex, a crack!play in two scenes by lunacy [H/D; PG-13]
Part crack, part piss-take of fandom, set during the "vague, misty time when the boys are in Hogwarts but the war is over".

Also, a poll on recs, because I'm curious:

Do you rec? (this can be fanfic, fanart, meta, icons, whatever)

[reccers] If it so happens that someone dislikes whatever you've recced:

I shrug it off; I liked it, and I know people who share my taste will.
116(76.8%)
If it's someone whose tastes normally converge with mine, I might feel a little hurt/bewildered. Otherwise, who cares?
29(19.2%)
I take it as a personal affront and feel like they are questioning my taste.
0(0.0%)
I assume that the person must have no taste, since mine is clearly superior.

[everyone] If a reccer expects their recs to be adored, this is:

Perfectly reasonable. All reccers have universally impeccable taste. It's genetic.
0(0.0%)
Somewhat unreasonable. Reccers do work hard to separate the diamonds in the rough, but it's unfair to expect everyone else to share their preferences.
115(65.3%)
Just another form of fannish entitlement.

[everyone] If a reccer feels bad that someone disliked what they've recced, this is:

Perfectly understandable. Putting your own taste out there is scary and it hurts to find out that not everyone shares your preferences.
31(17.6%)
I don't get it. There's no accounting for taste and everyone knows that different people enjoy different things.
122(69.3%)
The reccer's problem. What exactly did they expect?

[everyone] If someone is a reccer, they are necessarily:

An authority on good vs bad writing/art/meta

An authority on what other fen like/dislike
0(0.0%)
An authority on what people should like/dislike
1(0.6%)

[everyone] Some reccers are unhappy about reviews of fics recced on public newsletters, because they feel like their hard work is ignored/unappreciated when a reviewer doesn't agree with their picks. Your reaction?

They're perfectly justified in feeling this way. No one should ever publicly disagree with someone else's rec.
3(1.7%)
It's not a reasonable stance. They write their recs for everyone; they shouldn't feel entitled to control over how people react to their recs.

I'm sorry, WHAT?

In other news, I have prevailed over my remaining two slashfest fics and am now waiting for the betas & Britpicker ♥. I have scoradh's latest H/D novel open in tabs and tonight I am going to sit on the patio, read, eat strawberries, drink Red Bull and smoke. Huzzah!
