let's not be ashamed in front of these old walls

No reviews this week, 'cause I had no time to read anything. This is probably a good thing; I've been rather cranky as my week went south last Tuesday and is apparently still on vacation. :| Even my comfort reading -- Lord of the Rings -- was pissing me off the other day; I kept muttering "get to the dialogue already, dammit". So yeah, if Tolkien was eliciting that sort of a reaction, you can imagine what fanfic would've done. XP

My experiment in attempts to read whilst in a general state of cantankerousness made me wonder about something regarding reading habits. So, a poll! The question concerns works of fiction -- fannish or non -- but not things like PWP or character study vignettes, because those often lack at least some of the below.
Poll #813387 Reading habits/preferences

Pick one element of fiction that you absolutely cannot do without [given that all the others are also present]

Action [not counting dialogue]
17(11.1%)
Setting/scenery description
10(6.5%)
Backstory [if given outside dialogue/internal thoughts/setting description]
