when there's beef you just gotta know when to butt in and butt out
Erm, so I read an article today about the city of New York banning trans fats from its restaurants (and other places?).
Don't get me wrong. I by no means think that trans fats do not pose a health risk. They certainly do that, and more. But um. Isn't it supposed to be up to each individual person what they poison themselves with eat? And if they want to eat foods containing trans fats, who the fuck is the government to take that away? I can understand the smoking bans -- it's not just harmful to the smoker. Second-hand smoke can be just as deadly as first-hand. But how the FUCK are they justifying the trans fat ban? Second-hand cholesterol? If they're so fucking concerned about citizens' health, they should ban all motor vehicles before they ban trans fats, I am thinking.
The funny thing is, I remember a conversation with a friend back when the partial smoking bans first hit Toronto. I'd said, "What, are they going to ban McDick's too, cuz it's bad for you?" I was, uh. Joking. At the time.
