David Cook

I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For - goneril is somewhere hissing and spitting, I'm sure. XD I liked it a lot. He's not Bono. But he's David Cook, and he is already a rock star, and that's all there is to it. :D

Dream Big - I'm inclined to agree with Simon, that he did the best he could with what he had but it wasn't staggering. And it wasn't. But if Idol producers allowed it, I bet you anything this particular rendition of the song would be one of the coming summer's hits in regular rotation. D.C. took a what I don't doubt was meant to be a Muzak-style ballad and turned it rock. A song like that could never win American Idol, because this isn't what American Idol is about. But it's what David Cook is about, and he'll be okay no matter what happens tomorrow.

(And way to go Paula for killing someone's dreams on national television. "This isn't the winning song!1" I feel bad for the songwriter. >.>)

The World I Know - And this, ladies and gentlemen, is how you throw American Idol. David Cook knows full well this kind of song is not what he became known for; this is not what people want to hear when David Cook steps onto the stage. It was not a bad song, but the other guy is doing the song that made him a household name, and the other guy is the one the producers have been grooming to win. If David Cook had been playing to win, he would have *known* to do Hello or Billie Jean, and of course Simon had to point it out because he's Simon, but this was all very manufactured. In a way, I'm relieved because David Cook does NOT need to win American Idol anymore, and it would probably hinder him more than anything else. But in a way, it's really sad. Did you see him crying? Aw.

David Archuleta

Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me - Flawless vocal, as always. He's no Elton John, though: he tried to deliver an emotional performance but came off looking slightly manic for all his effort. I think I'll just listen to the next song and not watch the performance, because it is, after all, a singing competition, not a performing one.

In This Moment - As I said, I didn't watch him, and even so I wasn't particularly impressed. First, this would never be a hit, not in this version. He sounded breathy and unsure of himself in the beginning, and then whiny and unsure of himself at the end. Yes, he can hit the high notes with amazing precision, but there is more to being a great singer than hitting the high notes. And is it just me or is it really obvious that the judges have been told what to say? Seriously.

Imagine - Not as good as the first time he'd done it, but he knows he doesn't even need to try, doesn't he?

Also? LOL.
