Would you do meth if it were legalized?
No. I was going to talk about altered states of consciousness and why I prefer to avoid them, but that would be considerably hypocritical from anyone who consumes caffeine on a regular basis (it might not get you high, but it affects brain function consistently). My only drugs of choice are nicotine and caffeine; for me, they're worth the physical toll. Anything else simply isn't.
Are you for or against abortion?
This question is dumb, because it pushes women into the background in favour of a buzzword. I am pro-choice. I think a woman is the only person who can decide what to do with her body and when. I think it's stupid when women resort to abortion instead of educating themselves about and using contraception effectively, but I don't believe they should be "stopped", either. A so-called convenience abortion is no different from getting your tubes tied, in that respect. Women should be free to choose what they feel is best for them, always.
Would our country (United States) fall with a woman president?
It's not my country, but why would it, um, "fall"? Among nearly two dozen others, the UK, Pakistan, China, India, Switzerland, and Indonesia didn't, um, "fall" with a female president/head of state. Is someone trying to suggest that the USA is inferior to these countries? And if they are, are they actually Americans? Gosh.
Do you believe in the death penalty?
I believe that it exists. Do I think it should exist? Yes, but only if there is no doubt as to guilt. There are recorded cases of innocent people getting the death penalty, and I don't think that should ever ever happen. Other times? Yes, I think sometimes capital punishment is warranted. An eye for an eye may leave everyone blind, but I'm not talking about "you take a life, you get the chair" here. There's a lot of talk about every human being's inalienable right to life... um. Most confirmed pedophiles have no good reason to continue existing that outweighs the threat they pose. Neither do most serial rapists, serial killers, or heads of state responsible for mass genocide. Not even if they might come up with a cure for cancer some day if they were allowed to live (I think that's one of the most ridiculous lines of reasoning ever, because hello, ODDS.) I think they've taken their right to life and used it right up, kthx.
I don't have a real general answer, though. I think the death penalty should only be applied on a strict case-by-case basis, unaffected by legal precedent if possible.
Do you wish marijuana would be legalized already?
Yes. It can be enjoyed responsibly™ and smoking isn't the only way to partake. The gateway drug theory is a pile of horseshit, IMNSHO.
Do you believe in God?
This question always reminds me of this exchange in The Matrix:
Morpheus: Do you believe in fate, Neo? Neo: No. Morpheus: Why not? Neo: Because I don't like the idea that I'm not in control of my life.
It's similar for me with God. I don't reject the idea that God might exist, but I don't believe he/she/it does exist. This is a direct result of the reams and reams of conflicting and often self-contradictory information hawked by the world's religious sects large and small, presented as inviolable truth. I don't generally believe in absolutes, and when I can be in a room with ten people, all of whom have a different truth they each think is absolute, well, pardon me for remaining a skeptic.
I think any omnipotent/omniscient/omnipresent being that can't be seen is a construct society spawns to head off collapse at a time when collapse seems inevitable and people become so frantic with hope for a better tomorrow that they'll swallow any story to keep that hope alive. That the religions thus formed endure beyond the crisis is simply a testament to humanity's incredible potential for survival.
Do you think same sex marriage should be legalized?
Yes, and in my country (Canada), it already has been. The very idea that I live in a world where many people consider homosexual unions illegal makes me want to blow it up.
A twelve year old girl has a baby...should she keep it?
Does she want to keep it? >_<
But seriously, what a ridiculous question. There's absolutely no way to answer it without understanding the circumstances. There are cultures where girls routinely become mothers at 12 and 13, and this is not considered out of the ordinary within those cultures.
Should the alcohol age be lowered to 18?
I object to the very idea of "alcohol age" or "smoking age" or "voting age". Kids know better a lot sooner than most parents and governments give them credit for.
Assisted suicide is illegal...do you agree with this ruling?
No. I am pro-choice in everything, and if someone chooses to end her life, she should be able to choose to go with dignity, rather than in fear, pain, a sea of vomit, dangling from a ceiling, or with her brains splattered across floral-patterned wallpaper. Or a sidewalk.
Do you believe in spanking your children?
I have no children. If I had any, I would not spank them; violence instills fear, not respect, and a person who is merely afraid of consequences is likely to be a lot more troublesome than a person who understands why doing something is a bad idea.
Would you burn an American flag for a million dollars?
I'd burn one for a coffee and a smoke, but if you want to give me a million bucks, pony up and I'll burn nine!
A mother is declared innocent after murdering her 5 children in a temporary insanity case. Do you agree?
This question is impossible to answer without additional information about the circumstances of the murder. Are there seriously people who can make a moral judgement based on just the information in this question?
... don't answer that.
Are you afraid others will judge you from reading some of your answers?
If I were afraid of others judging me for what I say, I'd never open my mouth to speak.
