Female Characters Meme

I delivered my help_haiti story (to incapricious <3333) on Saturday. It's an original SF story of just over 3K, pure gen. I do not post my original writing online, but just FTR. :D

Meme stolen from jetamors (here): produce a list of 100 female characters you love, think are awesome, etc. I've added another dimension to it, wherein I bold the ones who came from a female creator's mind (AFAIK).

Links are rife with spoilers for everything! I didn't even read the Kate from Lost one because I'm only halfway through S1 (but at this point Kate would basically have to rape a kitten for me to not like her). I'm also only 100 chapters into One Piece, so I haven't met everyone yet. Also, I limited myself to 5 characters per source, because this would not have been challenging at all if I had listed all the female characters I love in Bleach, ASoIaF, and WoT. :">

Huh, not a lot are bolded, considering. Either not a lot of women produce the kind of stuff I like to be entertained by, or I need to be more conscious of creators when looking for new things to read or watch. :\ On the upside, I could have kept going -- hell, if I included all the Russian and Hungarian literature and entertainment I've consumed, I could probably get to 300. XD

Mission: find and consume moar good SF (but not F) created by women. Recs welcome -- particularly of stories originally written in a language other than English, Russian, or Hungarian (and then translated into either of those three, because otherwise I won't be able to read them!). I'm not too keen on YA fiction. Or vampires.
